New Wave of South Asian Writers Push A Different Story on Screen -NBC NEWS
The South Asian Film Lab (SAFL) is a group of writers, filmmakers and actors committed to developing stories by and about South Asians in the United States.
On Feb 12, SAFL had its official launch in partnership with Made In NY Media Center by IFP and Writers Guild Of America, East. Excerpts of 3 screenplays by Shilpa Mankikar, Sonejuhi Sinha and Kamran Khan were showcased, with performances by Farah Bala, Jaspal Binning, Meetu Chilana, Blake Delong, Surina Jindal, Melanie Kannokada, Paul Knox, Shetal Shah, Rajiv Sharma, Ami Sheth, Vega Tamotia, Nanda Valencia, Sorab Wadia.

The last nun at a Catholic hospital, Sister Mathilde, finds herself saddled with housing the pregnant wife of new Indian medical resident. Finding herself on the wrong side of the hospital's executive director, Sister Mathilde must choose between her job and her calling.
